***A note about the writing process steps***
While we believe that writing is a process, we
stress to our writers that the process is frequently non-linear.
Writers may find they need to return to a previous step before they can move
forward through the process. A writer in the revision step, for instance,
realizes that a point in the paper is not well supported. After brainstorming
additional support and drafting a new paragraph, the writer may return
to revising the paper. The best writers know that the secret to great writing
is rewriting, and no one creates a perfect draft on the first try. The
understanding that writing is a process and that returning to previous steps in
the process is not only possible, but highly advisable, is probably the most
important concept we teach at the
