Do I need to make an appointment?
For your convenience, you may choose a time to meet with one of our tutors by scheduling a session. Although writers who have made an appointment will be taken first, we do take both appointments and walk-ins.

Do I need to bring anything?
Bring your assignment, text, and any other relevant materials with you. If you have already begun writing, please bring two copies of your draft.

How long will a session take?
While our sessions could last up to an hour, how long they actually take depends on the complexity and scope of the questions the writer has.

Can I get assistance over the phone?
To improve the quality of the dialogue between the writer and tutor, we ask that you come in for a session or e-mail your question.

Can I pick my tutor?
You cannot request a specific tutor when you make an appointment, but if the tutor you want to work with is available when you arrive for your session, you may ask to work with him or her.

Can you tell me if my paper is good?
Many writers just want to know if the paper (or the thesis, style, etc.) is any good. We understand this concern, so our approach is to help you evaluate your own work. If you want to know, for example, whether your conclusion is good, we may brainstorm what good conclusions are supposed to do. We may consult a reference such as The Little, Brown Handbook and read what it says about conclusions. After developing a list of the characteristics of good conclusions, you are better able to evaluate whether you think your conclusion does the job or whether it needs improvement. Learning how to evaluate your own writing is an extremely valuable tool that will help you every time you write. This approach moves us toward the goal of making you a better writer and is much more useful to you than us telling you what we think about your writing.
