More About Us

Welcome to the Global Studies and Study Abroad website, one of Lamar University's many pathways to global education and opportunity. Lamar offers a wide diversity of courses that enable students to study in foreign countries through faculty-led programs, consortium or other institutions. Most recently, for instance, students have had an opportunity to earn university credit by taking part in faculty-led programs such as the Birth of Modernism while exploring the museums of Paris, France, and Tropical Marine Biology while snorkeling the mangrove lagoons of Tobacco Caye off the coast of Belize. Course offerings span diverse fields of study, ranging from undergraduate classes in modern languages to graduate classes in social justice.

Financial assistance is available. A student-approved fee allows the university to offer some scholarship support for students wishing to pursue study abroad opportunities, provided that the courses taken are approved for academic credit which can be transferred to Lamar and applied to one's degree program.

Whether a student chooses to study at the University of Salamanca, Spain's oldest and most historic institution, or the University of San Ignacio de Loyola-Cusco, Peru, the result is often the same—a life changing experience that is difficult to capture in words.

Thank you for dropping by, and I hope the student and faculty information will excite you to cross new boundaries.

Dr. Joe Nordgren

Associate Dean, College of Arts and Sciences
