About Us
The STARS program has been developed in order to better organize retention efforts at Lamar University. The mission of STARS is to promote student success, enhance individual academic performance and retention, and maximize all students' satisfaction with their college experience by offering proactive advising and comprehensive academic support resources. Monitored academic probation students from across the University will be identified and served by the STARS program. STARS is located in the Communication Building, Suite 109.
We offer notification and advising to students whose GPA falls below a 2.0 and Early Alert identification and advising to those whose GPA falls between a 2.0 and a 2.25 or who are referred by faculty or staff, tutoring, academic workshops, study skills enhancement, referrals to other services on campus as needed and proactive academic advising and counseling. All students will receive an individualized educational plan for success. In addition, STARS will unify existing programs, such as Learning Communities, WINGS Mentoring, AAMP, and Supplemental Instruction.
