Mission Statement

The Mission of Lamar University's Student Advising and Retention Services is to create an atmosphere where our staff and students are partners with the goal of assisting students in their academic, personal, and professional endeavors through on-going conversations, proactive advising, and comprehensive academic support services. Through this relationship, students will be provided sustained support, information, and resources in order to achieve their educational and lifelong goals.

Vision Statement

STARS at Lamar University will reflect the University’s commitment to educating a diverse student body and preparing students for leadership and lifelong learning by:

• Listening to individual student needs and accurately reflecting those needs back to the student.


• Creating an atmosphere of honest, open, and mutual respect and partnership between students and staff, students and students, and staff and staff.


• Providing support services and connectedness to resources on or off campus to all students so that they may successfully matriculate through the University and move into the work force and the world.
