• October 16, 2010 Vidor Middle School
Time: 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Location: Vidor Middle School
Description: The Department of Earth and Space Sciences, Physics, and Computer
Science will have one table each at Vidor Middle School for this
event. STAIRSTEP and INSPIRED students from each of these
disciplines are asked to coordinate with each other for times in
which they want to help out at these booths.
Report
Description:
STAIRSTEP students from each discipline
will meet with Lamar University recruiters and
show them what we plan on presenting to high
school students in a one hour format. Dr.
Jennifer Daniel will give a quick overview of
STAIRSTEP at the beginning. One student from
each discipline will then make a 5-7 min
presentation about their major, careers in their
major field, and what they have been doing in
STAIRSTEP. Other students from each discipline
will simply meet the recruiters. PowerPoint
presentations are encouraged for this event. Report

Interviewing
When:
2pm – 5pm
Where: Setzer Center Ballroom
Description:
This workshop is for students who are looking to
improve their interviewing skills. The theme is
similar to that of Speed Dating. Speed
interviewing helps students practice their “30
second commercial” lines with potential
employers. Extra copies of interview guides and
evaluation will be provided. Students will
mingle with one another prior to the starting of
the event and refreshments will be served at
that time. Each company representative will have
approximately five to ten minutes to interact
with each student. There will be a one minute
transition where the employer will have the
opportunity to complete a five-question survey.
This session is open for all classifications.
