Research -The STAIRSTEP GE/ESS team performs research under the direction of Co-PI Joseph Kruger. Research areas include collecting high-water marks on trees left by the storm surge from Hurricane Ike, determining locations for earthquake seismometers, and creating virtual geology field trips using GIS. Students are readily engaged in this hands-on research and will expand their research into subsidence studies of the Gulf Coast using GPS and microgravity measurements.

Outreach - Our STAIRSTEP students are involved in various on-campus and out-of-campus activities with the goal of sharing their knowledge with younger students. “Road shows” to high schools allow the STAIRSTEP students to inform potential Geology and Earth Science majors about careers in the Geosciences, explain what the STAIRSTEP program is, and what they have been doing in the program to enrich their education. In addition, involvement in science events with middle school and younger students create excitement for these students and help them see what the geosciences are all about.
