Testing Procedure

Students, faculty, and the SFSWD staff must work cooperatively in order
to provide testing accommodations in a timely manner. It is important to
understand that the assigned testing academic adjustments are intended to
provide equal access and not an
advantage over other students. Students
and instructors must interact in order to determine if instructors will
provide testing accommodations or if SFSWD will provide testing
accommodations. Below is a list of each person’s responsibilities that must be followed
so that testing services are provided efficiently through SFSWD.
Important Information:
- Students take exams on the same days and at the
same times as classes, unless other arrangements have been
pre-approved by instructors. There
may be times students need to take tests at different times such as when
students receive extended time and classes are back to back. These tests are taken earlier or later
the same day the class tests.
- Exams are scheduled between 8:00 AM and 3:30 PM to
assure students access to extended time.
Students are responsible to:
- Pick up accommodation memos from the SFSWD office
sometime the first week of classes.
- Meet with instructors during the first week of
classes to present the accommodation memos and discuss how the academic adjustments
and accommodations will be provided.
- Remind instructors of testing accommodations
when upcoming tests are announced.
At this time it is to discuss if calculators, charts, graphs, or
other materials can be used during exams; whether or not tests are to be
taken at the same time as the class.
- Notify SFSWD at least 4 days prior to test dates. This will give SFSWD time to obtain
exams from instructors and reserve testing rooms. Students are encouraged
to give SFSWD a list of dates/times for the semester’s tests. Sometimes this information is listed on
the course syllabus.
- Reschedule any exam they miss with the instructor.
Students are subject to faculty make-up policies. Students are responsible to set up
make-ups with SFSWD.
- Be prompt in arriving at the scheduled time for their
exams. Student tardiness may result
in loss of available work time. If
your test is scheduled for 75 minutes the clock starts at the time schedule
shows the test to begin. If you are
late in arriving such time cannot be added to the end of your assigned
period.
Faculty are responsible to:
- Work with SFSWD staff in assuring tests are in the
SFSWD office in time for exams and making arrangements as to how tests are
to be returned.
- Inform students and SFSWD staff of any materials
allowed during tests such as calculators, graphs, charts, and rough
drafts.
- Inform students and SFSWD staff if there are special
instructions for the test (ex. Complete Part A and then turn in before
taking Part B).
SFSWD Staff is responsible to:
- Record testing information when students notify staff
of upcoming exams.
- Make arrangements for testing rooms.
- Work with faculty/staff in assuring tests are in the
SFSWD office in time for exams and provide appropriate support.
- Return tests to faculty or their designated
departmental representative.
- Keep accurate records as to the provision of testing
accommodations.
