2008 Research Enhancement Grants

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs announces the 2008-9 Research Enhancement Grant (REG) competition. We moved to a new format for REG competition last year. It is now a single annual round held only in the Spring semester. We have eliminated the Fall round of competition but award the same number of grants (20) as in the previous combined rounds. Deadline for submission to the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs in March 21, 2008.

We encourage electronic submissions. A completed Microsoft Word document should be sent to us at stuart.wright@lamar.edu. You will still need to mail us the Route Sheet with appropriate signatures to the Research Office at P.O. Box 10119. Any questions about REG competition or submission issues should be directed to Stuart Wright (880-7673). Please access the link below:

Call for Nominations for 2008 University Scholar Award

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs is now accepting nominations for the 2008 University Scholar Award. The award recognizes a full-time faculty member for outstanding contributions to scholarship, research, proposal writing/grant awards, and/or creative activity over one’s career. The University Scholar Award signifies a lifetime of distinctive achievement in research and productivity. The award comes with a $5000 stipend which the recipient may use to support his or her future scholarship.

The Research Council will serve as the selection committee.  Selection Criteria include:

1. current significant research/creative activity and scholarship

2. a history of ongoing exemplary scholarship and research/creative activity spanning at least the previous five years

3. projected impact of the University Scholar Award on future scholarly work and accomplishments.

All faculty who have been employed by Lamar University for at least five years are eligible for the award, but no one may receive the award twice. Applications may not exceed ten pages and should include a nomination letter from peer or self which describes the applicant's lifetime scholarly and creative accomplishments, letters of support, a current vita and/or description of accomplishments appropriate for consideration of award, and plans for use of the $5,000 stipend.

The award is funded through returned indirect costs and use is restricted by statute to research-related activities such as release time, employing research assistants, research travel, and capital equipment when such equipment is not available through HEAF. All funds must be expended within two years of the award. Nominations may be submitted through to campus mail (P.O. 10119),  email (stuart.wright@lamar.edu), or hand delivered to John Gray Center, Building C. The deadline for nominations is March 21, 2008

The Research Office will host a reception to honor recipients of Research Enhancement Grants (REGs) and announce the winner of the 2008 University Scholar Award in April. Announcement of the time and place for the reception will be made.
