The Sheila Umphrey Recreational Sports Center at Lamar provides members with opportunities to workout at an individual pace or to sign up for more structured programs.  Along with available Intramural Sports, Personal Training sessions and free Group Fitness classes, offered every semester, the Sheila Umphrey Recreational Sports Center has everything you need to keep your body in top condition. 

Amenities include...  13,000 square feet for Cardio Training and Free Weights (with an indoor track), 2 Basketball Courts with 8 retractable goals, 5 Racquetball/Squash Courts, Multipurpose Court (volleyball, badminton, table tennis, basketball), Indoor Soccer and Floor Hockey, 40 foot Rock Climbing Wall, Putting Green, Indoor Pool, Health Cafe

Cardinal Circuit: (all levels)

A 12-machine workout system taught by a RecSports staff member. Each session is designed to keep you in the fat-burning zone for the entire 30 minutes.

 

Yoga:( all levels)

This class is open to all levels and due to moderate pacing is appropriate for beginners too. It combines the fundamentals of Yoga, with Sun Salutations to relax the mind, flowing from one pose to the next, linked with breath.

 

Group Strength: ( all levels)

Involves the use of free weights, body bars, bands, tubes, and balls to gain core strength and define upper and lower body muscles.

 

Indoor cycle 101: (all levels)

This class is to prepare you for our upcoming indoor cycle class. You will learn all about the bikes and how to use them properly as well as get in a small workout each time. Be on the lookout for the class, you won't want to miss it!!

 

Kickboxing: (all levels)

Get a "kick" out of getting fit! This combination of boxing and traditional martial arts movements can burn up to 400 calories an hour! The constant low-centered movements will give you an amazing cardio workout and killer legs that everyone will be taking about!

 

Water Aerobics: ( all levels)

A water aerobics class using a variety of equipment will melt off those pounds! Includes a significant cardio portion to get your heart working and your muscles moving. Stretching and toning are also part of this full service class!
