Welcome
to Lamar University's Club Sports Program
The
Club sports Program
is designed to meet the individual interests and needs of students
by fostering participation, skill mastering and competition in
various sports and activities. The Club Sports Program is
administered through the Department of Recreational Sports which
serves as an information center, administrative supervisor, and
resource for those involved. This supervision helps insure an
effective program in all phases of operation and student
development.
Club Sports are developed primarily to provide an opportunity for
extramural-collegiate competition or activities above the level of
intramurals but not under the auspices of the athletic department.
Club Sports are responsible for their own finances and expenses.
Financial expenses are generally met through dues, fund raising, and
other activities. Organizations may request monies from the
Recreational Sports office to help defray expenses.
Clubs are responsible for the writing and implementation of a
working constitution, recruiting new members, establishing dues,
planning and publicizing and promoting the club, etc. The emphasis
is on student leadership; the most successful clubs are the ones
with outstanding student leaders. The Recreational Sports Department
provides encouragement and guidance but in the final analysis the
club survives and thrives only by means of active student
involvement and participation.
The Club Sports Handbook has been designed to serve as a guide and
source of policy to club officers and advisors in the conduct of the
Sports Clubs Program. It contains specific policies and procedures
to be followed by all Club Sports in their operations.
Mission of LU Club Sports Program
The Club Sports
Program at Lamar University provides an opportunity for students to
shape their own recreational experience through
competitive/instructional sports teams. This program will enhance
the collegiate experience by developing skills and knowledge of a
particular sport, building character and leadership for future
pursuits, and by discovering lasting friendships and a lifetime
appreciation for physical activity.
