your Initial Texas Standard Teacher Certificate
To apply for certification, candidates who have completed all
requirements of any Educator Preparation Program (EPP) must have:
- Graduated with a Bachelor's or higher,
- Completed all courses required by their degree plan or
deficincy plan,
- Completed student teaching or internship
- Passed the appropriate TExES Content exam AND
- Passed the prropriate TExES Pedagogy and Professional
Responsibilities Exam for your certification area.
When these requirements have been met, each candidate MUST
apply for certification to be fully certified to teach in Texas.
Recent
graduates in their first year of
teaching, but who have not applied and received their Standard Teacher
Certification,
OR
Candidates
who may be teaching with a probationary or tenporary certificate while
completing the PB Alternative
Certification Program
MUST complete the application process for full certification.
The Application for a Texas Teachers certificate is TWO (2) parts:
1. Apply with the EPP insitution for recommendation For LU EPP
candidates, contact Ms. Lena Francis, Certification Officer.
2. Apply with the Texas State Board for Teacher Certification (SBEC).

2. Apply for certification with Texas State Board of Educator
Certification
Complete the online application SBEC.

Principal,
Counselor, Diagnostician, Superintendent or other Administrative or
Advanced Practice Certification
To apply for certification, candidates who have completed all
requirements of any Educator Preparation Program (EPP) must have:
- Documentation of at least TWO (2) years teaching experience
(a copy of your Service Record)
- Graduated with a MEd, OR
- Completed all courses required by you degree plan,
- Completed internship
- Been recommended by your program director, AND
- Passed the appropriate TExES exam
When these requirements have been met, each candidate MUST
apply for certification to be fully certified to in Texas.

> How to be
certified in additional teaching areas?
Teachers who hold a
Lifetime,
Professional, Provisional Lifetime, or Standard Texas Teachers
Certificate may add certification to teach additional subjects, or
grade levels. There are several options:
You may be able to apply
directly with SBEC for the appropriate
TExES Exam. Upon passing the TExES exam, apply directly with SBEC to
add the new certification area.
Lamar offers courses
which may prepare you for additional certification areas, such as:
- Reading
Specialist
- Special
Education
- ESL
Endorsement
- GT
Endorsement

investigate the
Master's Degree programs offered though Lamar Education in both
teaching and School Administration.
