What is the PACeR Program?
Post-Baccalaureate Alternative Certification Route.
Why Should you Consider the PACeR Program?
- You can begin your teaching career with a probationary certificate to teach in Texas.
- You will receive monitering for the first year of your teaching.
- You can receive credit hours that may be applied toward a M.Ed. Degree in Elementary or Secondary Education.
- You can complete your probationary period in one year and become fully certified at the end of the year.

What are the Eligibility Requirements?
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited university in an academic area appropriate for certification.
- A minimum 2.5 grade-point average on a 4-point system on all undergraduate university and college work previously taken.
- Have the number of credit hours in your content area required for state certification.
- Meet the minimum scores on the THEA:
- Reading: 240
- Writing: 220
- Math: 230
- Have a passing score on the TExES content area examination.
If you meet the above eligibility requirements the PACeR Program may be
your ticket to a challenging and rewarding career in teaching!

What are the Steps to Admission?
- At the Graduate Admissions Office:
- Complete an application for admission into the post-baccalaureate or master's program.
- Submit official copies of all college/university transcripts.
- Submit the $25 application fee.
- At the Office of Professional Services, RM206 Education Building:
- Complete a Certification Plan Request Form.
- Submit the $75 non-refundable application fee.
- Submit official copies of all college/university transcripts.
- Complete the "Authorization for Criminal Records Check" form.
- Read and sign the "Professionalism Agreement".
- Submit THEA, ACT, SAT, or GRE scores.
- Register for the Content Proficiency Exam in your academic area (the field in which you plan to seek certification), RM118 Education Building.
- If you pass the Content Proficiency Exam, sign up for the TExES exam in your content area in the TExES office, RM118 Education Building.
- Submit a letter of intent to hire or a copy of your contract from the school district in which you will be employed.
- When all of the above have been completed, schedule an appointment with Dr. Lula Henry(880-8902) for advisement.
