TERRI B. DAVIS
Assistant Professor of Political Science
Dr. Davis is Assistant Professor of Political Science and specializes in American Constitutional Law, Judicial Politics, and Administrative Law. She received a Ph.D. in Government from the University of Texas at Austin, an M.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies and a B. S. in Political Science from the University of Texas at Tyler. She serves Lamar as a Pre-Law Advisor, Faculty Sponsor of the Pre-Law Society, Faculty Sponsor of the Honors Student Association, Coach of the Lamar Mock Trial Team, and as a member of the Faculty Senate, the Student Advising and Retention Committee, and the Student Organization Committee.
Dr. Davis has received national recognition for teaching excellence from the American Political Science Association, Who’s Who Among American Teachers, and Golden Key National Honor Society. In 2002-2003, she was a national semifinalist for Outstanding First-Year Advocate sponsored by the National Resource Center for the First-Year Experience. At Lamar, she has received a University Merit Award, a Teaching Excellence Award, an Outstanding Preferred Professor Award by Alpha Delta Pi, and named Advisor of the Year.
Dr. Davis’ research has been presented at a number of national and regional conferences including those of the American Political Science Association, the Northeastern Political Science Association, the Southwestern Social Science Association, the Louisiana Political Science Association, and the Conference for the Study of European Ideas. She is an invited participant to the 2003 National Scholars’ Conference for the Center for Civic Education, and was an invited participant in the New York University School of Law Seminar in Jurisprudence and Constitutional Theory. Her work has been published in American Political Scientists: A Dictionary, (2nd ed.), Journal of European Ideas, Law and Politics Book Review, and is available on the ERIC Clearinghouse for Social Sciences. Her contribution to Social Issues: An Encyclopedia of Controversies, History, and Debates is forthcoming. She has conducted extensive research on educational equality and school vouchers funded in part through a Research Enhancement Grant awarded by Lamar University.
In addition to teaching and research, Dr. Davis regularly appears as a political analyst for KBMT, Channel 12, KBTV, Channel 4, and KLVI radio. In 2001-2002 she served as Interim Director of the University Honors Program. She has been an invited guest speaker for a number of organizations including the Press Club of Southeast Texas, the American Business Women’s Association, Lamar Leadership Conference, Texas Academy for Leadership in the Humanities, and Lamar Cultural Diversity Forum.
