Admission Requirements to the BSN Program

      • Admission to Lamar University
      • Grade Point Average of 2.5 or higher with no grades accepted in any area of study below C for nursing or co-requisite courses.
      • Transfer credits will be evaluated on an individual basis
      • Proof of current unencumbered license to practice professional nursing (RN).
      • Conference with the Coordinator of RN-BSN Articulation Track to confirm completion of all courses necessary for program admission

      Four Required Components

    • Associate of Applied Science in Nursing degree (RNSG) courses - Candidates must have an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (ADN) degree and a current unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse. All admissions are on a space available basis.
    • Core Curriculum - The State of Texas requires all students complete a common core curriculum. Most students need additional core credits to complete state requirements in this area. The BSN degree program requires completion of the Lamar University core curriculum (see course list below).
    • Co-requisite Courses* - These are required courses which prepare candidates for upper level nursing course work. Some are taken as part of the ADN program and some will be taken with upper level BSN courses.
    • Upper Level Online BSN Courses - These nursing courses are required curriculum for the BSN program. Students can complete the program according to the plan developed with the Articulation Track Coordinator or department advisor.

Articulated Nursing Credits

Twenty-nine (29) credit hours will be awarded toward the BSN degree for nursing courses taken during the associate degree, in addition to other academic courses transferred.

Required Upper Level Online RN-BSN Courses

These upper level courses MUST be taken at Lamar University (online and clinical projects) to be eligible for graduation.

NURS 4580 is a capstone course. All other courses required for the BSN degree need to be completed before enrolling in NURS 4580.
