The JoAnne Dishman Department of Nursing awards approximately $100,000 in scholarships each year to students admitted into the department’s nursing programs. The Nursing Scholarship Committee encourages students to review the criteria for each available scholarship and apply to those for which they are eligible. Scholarship account balances for the upcoming fiscal year are provided in January (fiscal year begins Sept. 1).  Endowed scholarships are initially opened in March for the following Fall and/or Spring semester awards.  Annually funded scholarships are opened when funds are provided to the accounts.  For SDS,grant awards are provided to Dr. Hall in June for the July 1 – June 30 time period.   SDS applications are opened in the Spring for the following Fall and/or Spring awards before grant amounts are known so that the committee may determine applicants' eligibility.  Award amounts are then determined once grant amounts are provided.   For all scholarships, if funds remain after initial award period, the scholarships may be reopened during any time of the year per committee's discretion. Students are encouraged to also apply for scholarships, loans and grants available through the Lamar University Financial Aid office located on the Lamar campus in the Wimberly building, room 216. You may also call the LU Financial Aid office at (409) 880-7011 for general information or email them at financialaid@lamar.edu.
