The Degree of Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Lamar University is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org. The educational objective of the undergraduate mechanical engineering program at Lamar University is that our graduates are successful practicing mechanical engineers demonstrating increasing professional responsibilities within three to five years of employment as they grow through problem solving and learning.:
The Student Outcomes of the program are that the students should be able to:
- Demonstrate and apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering;
- Design and conduct experiments, analyze data and interpret results;
- Design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constrains such as
economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability;
- Function in multidisciplinary teams;
- Identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems;
- Understand professional and ethical responsibilities;
- Communicate effectively, in writing and orally;
- Understand the impact of engineering solutions in global and societal context through a broad
education;
- Recognize the need for life-long learning;
- Demonstrate knowledge of contemporary issues; and
- Use the techniques, skills, and modern tools of engineering effectively and correctly in engineering
practice.
