School Administration M.Ed. with Principal Certification
and “Certification Only”

Prerequisites: Bachelor’s degree and valid Teaching Certificate. One year of teaching experience is required.
Please Note:
• Students already holding a master’s degree may apply for admission to pursue a M.Ed. in School Administration or "Certification Only".  A meeting with an advisor is required.

I. COMMON ADMINISTRATIVE CORE

II. TEACHING AND LEARNING

III. SPECIALIZATION PREPARATION

EDLD 5306      Foundations of Educational Technology
(Students must complete EDLD 5311 prior to the following courses.)

EDLD 5326      Communication and Public Relations
EDLD 5344      School Law
EDLD 5345      Personnel Administration (Human Resource Development)

IV. INTERNSHIP
EDLD 5398     Internship for School Principal

Total for Master's Degree                                                   36 Semester Hours

Students must take the TExES within one year of program completion.
Waiting beyond this time could result in additional coursework or testing.

* CERTIFICATION ONLY (with prior Master's degree)

Please Note:  Students who are doing "Certification Only" must submit a Departmental application and be
      	     admitted to the Certification Only Program as well as to the Graduate College (Post-Master's enrollment).
      * The "Certification Only" program consists of two options. They are:
      1. 21 hours of course work plus taking Instructional Leadership Development and Teacher Appraisal (PDAS)
         at the service center.
         -or-
      2. 21 hours of course work plus EDLD 5352 - Instructional Leadership Development and 
         EDLD 5356 - Educator Evaluation for a total of 27 hours.

      *All coursework must have been completed within the past six years
      Additional Requirements for certification:
      1. Hold a valid Texas  teaching certificate.
      2. Have a minimum of two years teaching in a TEA accredited school.
      3. Pass the Principal TExES. (Must be taken within one year of certification or additional coursework/testing may be required.)
      NOTE: No more than six hours of coursework which is more than ten years old will be counted on a certification only plan.
