LAMAR UNIVERSITY HONORS PROGRAM

It is our goal to assist you in a seamless transition, continuing your Honors education straight through to Honors Program Graduation from Lamar University .
To that end, we recommend that you arrange for a personal interview (face-to-face, by phone, or by email) with the Honors Program Director (see contact information below).

Who is eligible for the Honors Program?

To be accepted into the Lamar University Honors Program, you must have a GPA of at least 3.5 from your current institution.

How do I apply?

Just fill out our application form (the one for "Continuing or Transfer Students"), which is available on our website. Submit the completed application along with the requested references and a current resume and you are on your way! Of course, you must first be accepted into Lamar University to be accepted into the Honors Program.

Can I really complete my Lamar degree as an Honors Program Graduate?

Yes, you can! Our basic requirements for Honors Program Graduate status are: 23 hours of Honors with the Honors Thesis; or 26 hours of Honors credits without a thesis and the accumulation of "Honor Points". Your transcript will be evaluated by the Honors Program director and up to 12 hours of Honors course credits required for Honors Program Graduation at Lamar may be awarded. Further, your undergraduate resume will be evaluated by the Honors Program director in order to allocate "Honor Points" for service, leadership, cultural events, and academic achievement during your years of study at your current institution.

How do I apply for Honors Program scholarships?

You will receive full consideration for scholarships administered through the Honors Program, including the McMaster Honors Scholarships and the Tom Jones Memorial Scholarships. Fill out our on-line application form and get it to us by our priority deadline of February 1 in the spring before you expect to enter Lamar University .
