Honors Program Graduation


Honors Program MedallionAll students entering the University Honors Program are encouraged to work toward becoming Honors Program
Graduates. To achieve this distinction, the Honors Program student must:
  • Maintain a GPA of 3.2 or above AND
  • Collect a specified number of Honor Points by performing volunteer service work and participating in University and Honors Program activities AND
  • Complete a minimum of 23 hours of Honors classes, including six hours of the Honors Thesis OR
  • Complete a minimum of 26 hours of Honors classes, at least nine hours of which must be upper-level Honors classes.

Special recognition is given to Honors Program Graduates at University commencement exercises, including the opportunity to wear the Honors medallion (shown on the right) and a notation by the student's name in the commencement program. The status of Honors Program Graduate will also be permanently affixed to the individual's official University transcript.

A student may recieve a waiver on up to six hours of required credits for Honors Program Graduate status as follows: Students recieving a 4 or 5 on an AP exam may be exempted from three hours Honors requirements in that subject. Students recieving A's in a 2-course sequence may be exempted from 3 hours Honors requirements in that subject. No Honors Program students who enter Lamar with AP, IB, and/or co-enrollment credits may be exempted from more than 6 hours of the Honors requirements for Honors Program Graduate status.
