Entering Freshmen...
Freshmen entering the Honors Program are expected to have an SAT of at least 1200 (ACT 27) or a ranking in the top 10% of their high school graduating class. They are also expected to exhibit a record of academic achievement and community involvement. Where appropriate, a score of 525 on the TOEFL is also expected. Applicants need to submit all of the following, in addition to the completed Honors Program application form (see below).
- A copy of the high school transcript.
- A resume of the student's most outstanding accomplishments during high school.
- Two letters of recommendation from teachers, counselors, administrators, or supervisors.
- A cover letter detailing the students educational and career goals and aspirations.
The application to the Honors Program also requires a completed application for admission to Lamar University .
Current Lamar University students and transfers:
Current Lamar students or transfers who apply to the Honors Program are expected to have a minimum 3.5 grade point average (GPA) on at least 12 hours of regular academic courses. The continuing student's application form must be accompanied by a current resume and a cover letter detailing the student’s academic goals.
To retain active status in the University Honors Program, students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or above and participate in Honors classes and Honors Program activities. |
