John W. Storey teaches the U.S. history surveys as well as advanced courses on social and intellectual history and religion in the American South.  A specialist in American religious history, he has authored, co-authored, or edited a number of books, including Texas Baptist Leadership and Social Christianity, 1900-1980 (Texas A&M University Press, 1986) and Southern Baptists of Southeast Texas, 1888-1988 (Golden Triangle Baptist Association, 1988), both of which won the Baptist General Convention of Texas’s Church History Award.  Dr. Storey co-authored two books published by ABC-Clio, The Religious Right (1995), which was named an Outstanding Academic Book for 1996 by Choice magazine, and Religion and Politics (2001).  He has also edited Teaching Them . . .: A Sesquicentennial Celebration of Texas Baptist Education (Nortex Press, 1996), co-edited Twentieth-Century Texas: A Social and Cultural History (University of North Texas Press, 2008), and published articles appearing in the Southwestern Historical Quarterly, the Texas Gulf Historical and Biographical Record, and other professional journals.  The East Texas Historical Association named Dr. Storey Educator of the Year for 2007.  He has received the Regents Merit Award and has been named Regents Professor and Distinguished Faculty Lecturer.
