Thomas Reid teaches the U.S. history surveys and conducts research on the American Civil War and in Latin American history.  His books include Spartan Band: Burnett’s 13th Texas Cavalry in the Civil War (University of North Texas Press, 2005), America’s Fortress: A History of Fort Jefferson, Dry Tortugas, Florida (University Press of Florida, 2006), and two works on German belt buckles.  He has also published articles in the Texas Gulf Historical and Biographical Record and in the East Texas Historical Journal.  His current research includes a study of the 18th Texas Infantry, a biography of Judge William Perry Nicks, and a history of Cozumel.
