In addition to the U.S. history surveys, John M. Carroll teaches courses on U.S. military history, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, and sport in America.  He has authored Red Grange and the Rise of Modern Football (University of Illinois Press, 1999) and Fritz Pollard: Pioneer in Racial Advancement (University of Illinois Press, 1992) and edited eight other books in the fields of U.S. military, diplomatic, and sport history.  He has published more than fifty articles printed in scholarly journals, dictionaries, and encyclopedias.  Dr. Carroll is currently writing a biography of football great Jim Brown.  Among his honors, he has been named Regents Professor and Distinguished Faculty Lecturer.
