HISTORY DEPARTMENT


History Day

Lamar University will host its first annual Regional History Day competition on Thursday, February 25, 2010, from 1-5 p.m., in the Setzer Center.  This competition is part of the National History Day and Texas History Day programs.  Come and see a range of student projects exploring this year's theme, "Innovations in History."  History Day is open to any 6th to 12th grade student in Southeast Texas.  If you are interested in participating or want additional information, please contact Dr. Mary L. It is the purpose of the Department of History to impart a knowledge and understanding of the past to the students enrolled in the University.  This objective is based upon the belief that such knowledge and understanding improve the quality of life of individuals and contribute to the welfare of our society.  The department seeks to accomplish this objective through a program of continued study and research by its members and its students.  Research interests of the department focus on both American and European history.
