Joining the Health &
Kinesiology Major’s Club is a great way to meet
new people, get involved on campus and in the community,
build leadership skills and make contact with professional
organizations. Every year we have several exciting events,
one of which is the Texas Association of Health, Physical
Education, Recreation and Dance (TAHPERD) Conference
in December.
Moreover, several majors
have attended and even presented research papers in
places like San Diego and Philadelphia where regional
and national conferences are held. Amazingly, 90 percent
of the member’s experiences were covered by the
Major’s Club. In order to cover the costs of the
conference fees and hotel accommodations we have an
annual fund raiser which is a club and community sponsored
golf tournament (scramble) usually held at Henry Homberg
Municipal Gold Course.
The club also participates
in events on campus and in the community. Take advantage
of a great opportunity to increase your success while
attending Lamar and increase your options when you enter
the job market. Remember employers are looking for individuals
with leadership and communication skills who are able
to engage themselves and experience success in a variety
of activities and endeavors. A potential employer is
not only interested in an applicant’s GPA, but
also the activities and groups participated in while
at the university.
The registration fee is
$10.00 to join the club and these are the only dues
you will be asked to pay. Therefore, remember Major’s
Club members and officers are regularly exposed to current
professional and academic information and opportunities
that non-members may miss.
