ATHLETIC
TRAINING: Falling under the umbrella
of "Sports Medicine", Athletic Trainers
work with a vast part of the field of medicine.
Often they will refer an athlete to any number of
other specialists, such as orthopedic surgeons,
internal medicine specialists, neurologists, dentists,
physical therapists, or even to another Athletic
Trainer for a second opinion. At all times the welfare
of the athlete must be a priority. It is hoped that
the extensive amount of schooling that Athletic
Trainers need to achieve their title will help them
in making their informed decisions.
Mission
Statement: The Department of Health and Kinesiology
develops and applies multi-disciplinary, global, and
collaborative knowledge and skills to meet individual,
educational, and community needs in the fields of health
and kinesiology at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
The Department provides general education opportunities
benefiting all students through lifetime fitness, wellness,
and physical activity programs which enhance the quality
of life. Professional programs for educator preparation
and human development careers are offered in a positive
and challenging environment utilizing appropriate theory,
practice, research and service to promote health and
active lifestyle principles. Specific professional health
and kinesiology competencies produce effective leaders
and managers who design and disseminate effective programs
that enhance healthy behaviors and maximize human performance
through physical activity within a culturally diverse
world.
All
university students are required to
complete a minimum of 1 credit hour of physical education
general activity (PEGA) in order to satisfy the university
core curriculum requirements. Students may select
from a wide variety of PEGA offerings or from DANC
1222 or DANC
1228. Note: KINA classes will not
satisfy the university physical education general
activity program credit hour requirement.
The
physical education general activity program is designed
to develop life-long activity
skills, as well as enhance the general
education objectives of the university. Our modern
sport facilities include tennis courts, golf driving
range, walking track, fitness center, and swimming
pool.
