My name is Shawn F. Rooney and I joined Lamar University Student
Health Center as a nurse practitioner Nov. 2003. I previously helped
open a
medical clinic in downtown Beaumont, Abba Health Clinic, a
medically underserved clinic that joined forces with Dr. K. Paul Gerstenberg in Mid-county. Prior to my work with Abba Health Clinic, I
was an emergency nurse practitioner for Emcare, working in the emergency
room of Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital Beaumont.
My educational history began here at Lamar University where I
graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After working in the
emergency room at Park Place Medical Center for three years, I returned
to school in May 2000 completing a Master of Science as an Emergency
Nurse Practitioner at the University of Texas Health Science Center
Houston. I am board certified as an Emergency Nurse Practitioner by the
American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
I grew up in Groves and currently live in Nederland with my
son-Nathan.
My hobbies include real estate renovation and sales, and weekend
family gatherings at the beach. Nathan started kindergarten in August
2003, and also plays soccer.
I would like to encourage all students to pace yourselves through
your years here at Lamar. Remember what is most important to you and
make time to nurture that. Stay focused and be diligent in your studies.
Utilize the resources Lamar University has to offer and come see us here
at the Student Health Center anytime.
Sincerely,
Shawn F. Rooney RN, MSN
Emergency Nurse Practitioner
