Ms. Hardie was born in Liberty, Texas and reared in
the rural community of Raywood, graduating from Hull-Daisetta High School. She holds a Bachelor
of Science degree in Nursing from Incarnate Word University in San
Antonio, TX; and is certified as a women's health nurse practitioner.
Ms. Hardie: "Having a passion for preventive nursing, I entered
into the field of public health nursing in San Antonio immediately after the
diphtheria epidemic and discovered the type of nursing that I fell in love
with. During my career, I have been involved in surgical nursing,
maternal and child health nursing in the clinics and in the homes, family
planning and STD clinics, Tuberculosis control in the jail, in the community
and clinic, and Hansen Disease (Leprosy) clinics and epidemiology services.
"Developing health education classes and programs for
public health clients enticed me to seek career enhancement and a
stimulating environment at Lamar University. I came to Lamar University in
1990 as a Registered Nurse to do Health Education at the Student Health
Center. In 1994, I attended the University of Texas Southwestern in
Dallas and became a certified Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and worked
full-time in the Student Health Center until my retirement in 2008.
Post retirement I returned to Lamar University on a part-time basis serving
the women's health needs of current students.
"My career passion is to enhance the total health of students and to
provide them with the information they need to prevent health problems.
"I spend a lot of time with my family, my church, Sir Saben (my
Akita), music (listening and playing), gardening, and reading. I hope to do
extensive traveling to the marvelous places that I have read about".
