Richard Byron
Rienstra, MD has been the University Physician since 1991. His entire
medical career has been in the Golden Triangle, and, in fact he is a Lamar
University alumni. He received a Bachelor of Science degree
from Lamar in 1959, completed his Medical Degree at the University of Texas
Medical Branch in Galveston, and his internship and residency at John Peter
Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. Prior to accepting his current position
with Lamar, he was in private practice in Nederland for over 25 years, and was
Chief of Staff for Mid-Jefferson Hospital.
Dr.
Rienstra is an active member of the Jefferson County Medical Society, Texas
Medical Association, American Academy of Family Physicians, and the American
College Health Association. He is married with three grown children and
several grandchildren.
