PHARMACY The Student Health
Center operates a Class D
Pharmacy offering low cost medications and supplies. Most medications
ordered by our practitioners are available within the clinic pharmacy, as are
many over-the-counter medications and supplies. While our pharmacy does
not directly accept outside prescriptions, one of our practitioners will gladly order
something comparable after a brief office visit to evaluate the
condition. No payment is required at the time of service as all charges
are billed to the student's account and payable at any time during the
semester.
Most medications range in price from $5.00 to $20.00 per prescription,
although most illnesses are treated with those in the lower price range.
While we have several medications that are expensive ($75 - $135), they are
prescribed only if absolutely necessary and billed to the student at, or near,
our cost.
Birth control pills are available
at $25.00 per pack. We also offer
the birth control patch, Ortho Evra; and the injection, Depo-provera. Our
practitioners are usually able to select an acceptable alternative if we are
not stocking the brand a student has been prescribed. To receive birth control
(pills, patch, injections), students are required to schedule an exam and pap smear at the Student Health
Center, or bring a copy of their recent pap smear (performed within the
past year). Refills on birth control pills / patches may be requested over the phone but require a 24 hour notice.
Numerous over the counter medications and health and hygiene items are
also available. Students always have
the option of receiving a written prescription which can be filled at any
pharmacy in Texas.
