PERSONAL
COMMENTS:
I feel very fortunate to be a part of
Lamar University. Enrollment is steady, moral is high and
our administration's commitment to quality
education, campus beautification, and student life is obvious.
The Student
Health Center's interior has been totally updated and old equipment has been
replaced with new. Our Staff is highly qualified and dedicated to the
students and the university community. Why is this so
important?
Our students represent the future of
our city, our county, our state, our country. Though the
Student Health Center represents only a small part of the Lamar University
experience, our focus on health maintenance, health education, and health
promotion (physical and emotional) can be instrumental in maximizing our
students' individual performance, enhancing their educational experience,
and in forming well-balanced, highly educated adults to lead us into our future. I like where we're going and I'm proud to be a part of such an important
mission.
Ms.
Warner was born and raised in S. E. Texas and joined the Student Health Center
in January, 1999 as Director of Student Health Services. She holds a Master of Science degree in Nursing, and a Bachelor of Science degree in
Nursing from the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, TX; and is certified as a family nurse practitioner by the American Academy of
Nurse Practitioners. Prior to attending UTMB, she completed nursing
degree prerequisites at Lamar University. She has many years
experience in family practice, critical and cardiovascular nursing care, and
administration; and previously worked in a local area emergency room as a nurse practitioner.
Ms. Warner is active in Texas Nurse Practitioners, American Academy of Nurse
Practitioners, American College Health Association, and was previously active
with the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. While she spends the majority of her
time at Lamar on administrative functions and the overall operation of the
Student Health Center, her favorite time is that spent in a nurse practitioner
role managing student's acute medical problems and providing counseling on
health promotion.
Personal interests include
spending time with family and friends, reading, exercising (treadmill,
aerobics, pilates), traveling, going to the beach, and doing just about
anything that involves animals, especially dogs. She shares a home in the Sour Lake area with her husband Scott, son Austin, and Cairn Terrier "Mya".
