To enable us to keep our services affordable for the students, we stock a
limited number of birth control pills. If you are already on a specific
pill not carried in our clinic pharmacy, discuss an acceptable substitution
with your primary physician or on of our medical providers.
Effective February 23, 2004, we were forced to increase our prices on
birth control pills to $25 per pack due to the cancellation of special
contract prices by the manufacturer. This is still a significant
bargain compared to the $35 to $50 charged by most retail pharmacies. The
cost is still charged to your student account and must be paid before you
will get credit for the semester. Below is a list of the pills currently
available in the Student Health Center Pharmacy. This is subject to change
on short notice.
Cryselle (Lo/Ovral equivalent)
Tri Sprintec (Ortho Tri Cyclen equivalent)
Ortho Tri Cyclen-Lo
Ortho-Evra patch (Phased out July, 2007)
PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING BIRTH CONTROL PILLS:
If you have EVER been sexually active or you are over 21, a
pap smear will be required at least annually if you wish to begin or
continue birth control pills. Certain "abnormal" pap smear results may
require additional or more frequent testing. You may see one of our
practitioners and request 1 pack only to allow time to arrange
a pap smear or obtain a copy of previous pap results from your private
physician.
If you have had a pap smear off-campus within the last 12
months, you may complete an
Authorization to Release Medical Records
(available in the
Student Health Center or from your personal physician) and mail, fax, or
hand deliver to the medical provider who is in possession of the pap report.
(We will be happy to fax the request for you if you can provide all the
necessary information. However, hand delivering the request directly to your
physician and personally picking up the report is frequently the most
efficient method).
If you have EVER been sexually active, or you are over
21 and have not had a pap smear within the past 12 months,
arrange to have one with one of our female nurse practitioners ($55 lab
processing charge to your student account), or with the physician or
practitioner of your choice. We must have a copy of the report before a
second pack of pills will be issued, so make arrangements early.
Health Center staff will review the pap report, discuss the results with
you (if performed here), and write an order in your chart indicating the
number of
refills allowed before the next pap smear is due. You may request one or
all of the remaining refills at any time, provided your pap due date
has not passed. You may request a written prescription for the remaining
pills at any time which may be filled at the pharmacy of your choice.
REFILLS:
PLAN AHEAD!! Refills are available during
regular clinic hours only and must be requested in person or by telephone
24 HOURS IN ADVANCE. We do not accept on-line refill requests to
protect your privacy.
