Human Subjects in Research |
|
Research investigators must obtain approval from
the Human Subjects Review Board for research involving human subjects as
required by federal law. Even in projects that will cause no evident harm
to human subjects, an exemption must be obtained from this office. Forms
may be acquired from the Office of Graduate Studies & Research or
downloaded from our web site. |

Animal Care and Use in
Research |
|
Research
investigators using live, vertebrate animals must be in compliance with
U.S. Public Health Service Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory
Animals. Information on animal use in laboratory research can be obtained
from the Office of Graduate Studies & Research.

Conflict of Interest Policy |
|
Government policies require disclosure of
conflicts of interests that could reasonably be seen by an impartial
observer as affecting the design, conduct, or reporting of research or
educational activities funded or proposed for funding by an external
sponsor. All researchers are responsible for being familiar with Conflict
of Interest policy as described in the Lamar University Sponsored
Projects Manual, available from the Office of Graduate Studies &
Research. |
| Intellectual Property Policy |
| University
researchers should be aware of the Texas State University System (TSUS)
policy on intellectual property as described in Chapter III, sections 10
and 11 of the Rules and Regulations manual. This material is
reproduced in the Lamar University Sponsored Projects Manual,
available from the Office of Graduate Studies & Research.

| Ethical Conduct in Research
Policy |
|
The integrity
of the research process is an essential aspect of a university’s
intellectual and social
structure. Lamar University is responsible both for
promoting academic practices that prevent misconduct and for developing
policies and procedures to deal with allegations or other evidence of
fraud or serious misconduct. All members of the university community share
responsibility for developing and maintaining standards to assure ethical
conduct of research and detection of abuse of these standards. Policies
and procedures pertaining to ethical conduct in research are contained in
the Lamar University Sponsored Projects Manual, available from the
Office of Graduate Studies & Research. |
| Administrative Cost Return
Policy |
| To enhance
research, to provide incentives for investigators and operating units, and
to render general support through the Office of Graduate Studies &
Research, Lamar University returns a portion of earned administrative
costs to generating units. Please refer to the Lamar University Sponsored
Projects Manual for distribution guidelines.

| Report Policies |
| Faculty are expected to submit reports as
required by the sponsor and meet deadlines for those reports. The Project
Director/Principal Investigator assumes primary responsibility to comply
with all conditions of the award as specified by the sponsor and agreed
upon by the institution. Researchers with delinquent reports will not be
permitted to submit proposals for sponsored projects until past-due
reports have been submitted. |
