Grants Development and Management Manual

The contents of the manual are taken from the Sponsored Projects Manual available in print from the Research Office. Updates made on this site may not be reflected in the printed version.

Human Subjects in Research

Research investigators must obtain approval from the Human Subjects Review Board for research involving human subjects as required by federal law. Even in projects that will cause no evident harm to human subjects, an exemption must be obtained from this office. Forms may be acquired from the Office of Graduate Studies & Research or downloaded from our web site.

Animal Care and Use in Research

Research investigators using live, vertebrate animals must be in compliance with U.S. Public Health Service Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals. Information on animal use in laboratory research can be obtained from the Office of Graduate Studies & Research.

Conflict of Interest Policy

Government policies require disclosure of conflicts of interests that could reasonably be seen by an impartial observer as affecting the design, conduct, or reporting of research or educational activities funded or proposed for funding by an external sponsor. All researchers are responsible for being familiar with Conflict of Interest policy as described in the Lamar University Sponsored Projects Manual, available from the Office of Graduate Studies & Research.

Intellectual Property Policy
University researchers should be aware of the Texas State University System (TSUS) policy on intellectual property as described in Chapter III, sections 10 and 11 of the Rules and Regulations manual. This material is reproduced in the Lamar University Sponsored Projects Manual, available from the Office of Graduate Studies & Research.
Ethical Conduct in Research Policy

The integrity of the research process is an essential aspect of a university’s intellectual and social structure. Lamar University is responsible both for promoting academic practices that prevent misconduct and for developing policies and procedures to deal with allegations or other evidence of fraud or serious misconduct. All members of the university community share responsibility for developing and maintaining standards to assure ethical conduct of research and detection of abuse of these standards. Policies and procedures pertaining to ethical conduct in research are contained in the Lamar University Sponsored Projects Manual, available from the Office of Graduate Studies & Research.

Administrative Cost Return Policy
To enhance research, to provide incentives for investigators and operating units, and to render general support through the Office of Graduate Studies & Research, Lamar University returns a portion of earned administrative costs to generating units. Please refer to the Lamar University Sponsored Projects Manual for distribution guidelines.
Report Policies
Faculty are expected to submit reports as required by the sponsor and meet deadlines for those reports. The Project Director/Principal Investigator assumes primary responsibility to comply with all conditions of the award as specified by the sponsor and agreed upon by the institution. Researchers with delinquent reports will not be permitted to submit proposals for sponsored projects until past-due reports have been submitted.
