Distance Learning uses the World Wide Web to deliver course content and enables communication between instructor and students. It provides students with a flexible, convenient way to earn a degree.
2. How do I apply for admission?
You apply for admission in the same way you apply for on-campus admission. In order to take any Distance Learning course from Lamar University, you must first be admitted to the University. For more information contact Admissions.
The BlackBoard login page. Your Blackboard ID is the same as your myLamar ID. Your Blackboard password is your Student ID number (eight digit number).
4. Do I have to login at a certain time?
No. Lamar University employs an asynchronous format, which allows students to login at their convenience. However, students are encouraged to login daily to obtain assignments and participate in course discussion.

Neither. Distance Learning courses may require different study skills, but they have the same objectives and content as on-campus courses. 7. What courses are being offered this semester?

Contact your academic advisor at 409-880-7570 to discuss the courses necessary to obtain your degree.
NO. Distance Learning courses are offered during the fall, spring and summer semesters with the same sessions lengths as on-campus courses.
10. Are Distance Learning courses self-paced?
No. Most Distance Learning courses have scheduled dates for exams, papers, discussions or other course assignments. Distance Learning courses follow the same academic calendar as on-campus courses.

12. Can I combine on-campus courses with distance learning course?
Yes, You can combine on-campus courses and distance learning courses to complete your degree. You will have on-campus fees plus Distance Learning fees.
13. Is the online program accredited?
Yes. Lamar University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Lamar University 's Distance Learning courses are taught by the same faculty you would find in our face-to-face classroom.
15. How many students are allowed in a Distance Learning course?
Distance Learning course size is limited to ensure that you get the attention you need and deserve.
16. Do the Distance Learning courses require textbooks and how do I obtain them?
Yes. Distance Learning courses utilize textbooks. You can order from the Lamar University Bookstore.
17. How do I get a Lamar Electronic Account?
This is the same information used to login to My.Lamar.
- Go to my.lamar.edu
- Click on "How do I get a username and password?"
- Click on "Student Usernames."
- For your student ID enter your 8-digit campus ID or your Social Security Number
- Your PIN is initially set to your birth date ( mmddyy)
- Click "Process"
- Your Lamar Electronic Account login information is then provided. Please be aware that all letters in your initial password are capitalized. Be careful not to confuse the letter I with the number 1 or the letter O with the number 0
- Click "Exit" in the upper right corner
- Go to my.lamar.edu.
- Enter your User Name and Password
- Select the "Student Services" tab
- On the "Web for Students" box, click on "Click here to:"
- Click on "Select Term". Select the term for which you want classes.
- On the "Select Subject" click on the subject you want to take.
- Click on the course number. This will show you all the sections, call number, number of available seats, teachers, etc.
- Scroll on top of the page and select "Registration" tab; click on "Add or Drop Classes."
- Scroll down an you will see a row with boxes. Type in the call numbers of the preferred classes.
- Click "Submit." You are now registered for the available classes.
- To print your schedule, select "Registration" tab. Click "Detailed Schedule." Click on "File." Select "Print". A new box will appear, Click "OK." On the top right corner click "Exit" to log off.
Note: Distance Learning courses are sections 47, 48, and 49.
19. How many credit hours should I take?
As a rule, students need to study 2-3 hours outside of class for every hour in class. You may want to limit your number of credits, if any of the following apply:
- You have a job
- You are the primary caregiver for children or have many family responsibilities
- You are concerned about the amount of time one or more of you classes will take
- You have been out of school for a while and need time to adjust to the transition
