WELCOME

We are delighted you have chosen to begin your college career in the Center for General Studies at Lamar University!

NEW STUDENTS

Freshmen entering LU for the first time in summer and/or fall each year are required to meet with their academic advisor and attend New Student Orientation. Once you receive a letter of acceptance from Lamar University, go to www.lamar.edu and click on the New Student Orientation link (bottom left corner) to register for a specific date. Next, call your freshman academic advisor, Ms. Susan Daniel, at (409) 880-7574 to schedule an appointment for your initial meeting. To prepare for this initial meeting, read through all sections of the Freshman Students tab. General Studies is located in the Communication Building, Suite 107. For directions, go to our campus map.

EXPLORATORY FRESHMEN

As an exploratory freshman, you are beginning a journey of transitions and self-discovery. You’ll need help to get to your destination - graduation. With over 9 years professional advising experience, your freshman advisor, Ms. Daniel, will guide you along your journey but decisions are yours to make. Be honest with yourself and your advisor to get the information and help you need to stay on course.
