Loans By Web
Lamar University will begin utilizing Loans By Web by TG for all stafford loans beginning with Summer 2008 loans. Students will be awarded all of their Stafford loan eligiblity once they are ready for awarding. Students will then have a choice to accept their loans as awarded or reject their loans. If a student wishes to receive the Stafford loan amount they must follow some very important steps:

1. Accept the loan by logging into their account.
2. Waiting approximately 2 working days.
3. Go to Loans By Web. Remember you cannot move forward with Loans By Web until you have been awarded and accepted your loan funds.

Students awarded loans for Fall 2008 and Spring 2009 cannot complete the Loans By Web process until after June 1, 2008.

In Loans By Web you will be required to complete Entrance Counseling, choose a lender, and complete your Master Promissory Note. You will need to adjust your pop up blocker.

Fall 2008 Processing
FAFSA information for the 2008-2009 award is loading in daily. Check your account through My.Lamar to view what documents are needed to complete processing.

Awarding for Fall 2008 will begin within the next month.

Summer Financial Aid
Financial Aid for the summer is limited. Additional paperwork just for summer aid will only be required for undergraduate and Graduate PLUS loans. Students will be awarded their remaining pell, state grant, and loan eligibility when they register for the correct combination of hours. Students must be enrolled in one of the situations below to possibly receive aid other than pell grant funds:

Summer 1: 6 hours
Summer 2: 6 hours
Summer 1 and 2: 3 hours each session
Summer 3: 6 hours
Summer 4: 6 hours.

Students who change their enrollment after they are awarded and whose lose eligibility as a result will have their aid cancelled. Students awarded loan money for summer will need to follow directions provided at the time of acceptance.

Note: if you received the full amount of your loan or pell grant eligibility for the Fall 2007 and/or Spring 2008 whether at Lamar or somewhere else you will not have any loan eligiblity left for the summer. Additional grant eligiblity is limited.

Student Loans
Many student loan companies have stopped processing stafford and PLUS loans. If you have borrow before you need to contact your lender to ensure they are still participating.

It is the student's responsibility to choose a lender to borrow the funds from. Students can access Lamar University's school fact sheet, or any school's fact sheet to review what lenders have been chosen by students in the past.

*Lamar University does not receive any benefit from any lender, and students are not restricted from choosing a lender that is not listed.

LOAN CONSOLIDATION: Consolidating your student loans can be a very confusing and difficult process due to all of the choices. Texas Guarantee (TG) has some information that may ease the burden.

Texas Grant and B On Time Loans
Texas Grant: Funding for the Texas Grant is limited due to the large number of eligible students. Students who have received the Texas Grant in previous years have until November 1st to complete all documentation or they forfeit the Texas Grant for the 07-08 year. Incoming freshman will be awarded based upon their Expected Family Contribution and the date they applied for Financial Aid. Incoming students will not be awarded any Texas Grant funds until after November 1st.

B On Time: Due to limited funding of the B On Time loan is not available to students how have not previously received it. Returning students need to submit a B On Time Loan Worksheet once they are registered for classes in the Fall.
