Hospitality Administration

The Hospitality Administration program is designed to provide students with the competencies they need to succeed in and contribute to an industry that continues to realize a shortage of management talent resulting from a growing travel and tourism industry. This program will qualify the student for a wide variety of careers in the hospitality industry, including management positions in hotels, motels, restaurants, resorts, private clubs, catering operations, hospital foodservice, school foodservice, rail feeding (AMTRAK), cruise ship dining, as well as, vendors supplying these activities. A number of scholarships are available from the local, state, and national restaurant associations.
The Certificate Program is a program within a program. Each certificate allows you to concentrate your studies on a particular area of expertise within the Hospitality Industry. Successful completion of certificate requirements will qualify you for an entry-level of first-level supervisory job.
The certificates are awarded by the Hospitality Management program in the department of Family and Consumer Sciences, so you must first enroll in Lamar University. Upon successful completion of a certificate program, you may wish to complete the requirements for a four year degree in Hospitality Management.
