A Welcome Note from Dr. Hopper
Dean, College of Engineering

On behalf of the faculty, staff and students of Lamar University, I welcome your interest in the College of Engineering.
The College has five academic departments: Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering; three environmental research centers: the Texas Hazardous Waste Research Center(THWRC), the Gulf Coast Hazardous Substances Research Center(GCHSRC), and the Texas Air Research Center(TARC); the Center for Fuel Cell and Energy Systems (CFCES); the Green Composite Research Center(GCRC); the Center for Transportation/Ports and Waterways(CTPW); the Center for Process and Information Technology (CPIT) and the Aldredge Air Quality Modeling Center (AAQMC);
the Material Instrumentation Center(MIC); the
Renewable Energy Center(REC).
We have thirty-eight(38) faculty; fifteen(15) staff; 804 undergraduate and 306 graduate students, and $3.5 million a year in external funding.
The College has interdisciplinary research focused under the Texas Center for Technology Incubation (TCTI) being led by four endowed chairs: Dr. Harley Myler, the Mitchell Chair in Telecommunication; Dr. Thomas C. Ho, the Aldredge Chair in Industrial Infrastructure; Dr. David Cocke, the Gill Chair in Chemical Engineering/Chemistry; Dr. Robert Yuan, the Green Chair in Composites/Material Science; Dr. Victor Zaloom, the Director of the Center for Transportation/Ports and Waterways(CTPW); Dr. Kuyen Li, the Director of the Center of Process and Information Technology(CPIT) and Mr. George Talbert, the Director of the Texas Air Research Center(TARC).
We offer bachelors and masters degrees in the five departments, the Doctor of Engineering degree in the five engineering disciplines and the Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering. The cooperative education program is a major degree option and a primary focus of the college.
