Purpose:
The Early Childhood Development Center provides a quality child care service
which is educationally oriented, and a model early childhood education
program for 3, 4 and 5 year olds. The program provides excellent opportunity
for Lamar students to have specific, planned experiences with young children.
The Center is designed for learning for the young and for college students.
The College of Education and Human Development serves as the foundation
to operate the Early Childhood Development Center wihch provides an exemplary
educational and developmental program for children from 18 months to six
years of age. The eductional programs serve as part of the instructional
experiences for college students in understanding and facilitating the
development of young children. The Center provides appropriate settings
for preparing pre-professional teachers to direct learning of children
who exhibit both typical and atypical development. In addition, the center
provides interdisciplinary research opportunities for nursing, faculty
and graduate students, including the study of child behavior and the generation
of effective strategies for promoting optimal human development and family
interactions.
