Graduate Council

The Graduate Council of Lamar University met in Room 238, Galloway Business Building at 3:00 p.m. Dr. Jerry Bradley, Dean of Graduate Studies, presided. The following Council members were present: Drs. Farrow, Fitzpatrick, Sheppeard, and Moss. Drs. Culbertson and Lin were not present. Carmen Breaux was also in attendance.


Minutes of the November 15, 2006, meeting were read and approved.


Thesis Style-American Mathematical Society (AMS)

Copies of Instructions for Preparation of Papers and Monographs and AMA Author Handbook were given to Council members for their perusal. The Mathematics Department will be contacted to find out if they would like to supplant the AMS for the Chicago Style currently used. This item was tabled until the next meeting.

Graduate Faculty Review/Recommendations

The following were approved for Graduate Faculty Membership:

Glenn B. Anderson-Special member in the Deaf Studies/Deaf Education
David L. Cocke-Full member in Chemical Engineering
James Curry-Initial member in Industrial Engineering
Michael S. Pennington-Associate member in Political Science

Graduate Committees

The Council was asked to review the policy regarding graduate committees. Due to new SACS regulations regarding graduate committees, the Council was asked to get feedback from each college. This information will be brought to the next Council meeting for discussion.
