The Lamar University Theatre Program is dedicated to the promotion, development, production and appreciation of the theatre through the integration of teaching, creative work, research and service. We seek:

• To provide complete, sound and imaginative training in all areas of theatre arts, including educational, community and commercial theatre.
  
  
• To provide training and opportunities for the development of leaders in the field of theatre arts in the area, state, region and nation by helping students realize their creative potentials and to develop individuals who are appreciative of the responsibilities to themselves, to others and to their art.
  
  
• To provide facilities and opportunities in the theatre arts for academic and practical achievement, research and experimentation within the art by producing a representative selection of proven plays from the past and present, as well as premiering new plays.
  
  
• To provide an educational atmosphere for the general population of Lamar University for the appreciation of quality dramatic productions and to serve as a cultural resource for Lamar University, the City of Beaumont and Southeast Texas.
  
  
• To serve as a source of theatrical information and expertise and to serve as a reference center for the theatre arts in public schools, community theaters and other theatrical endeavors in Southeast Texas.
