Music Building Renovation
Since 1959, the Music Department has been housed in the same building on Lamar University’s campus, a nearly half-century tenure that yielded hundreds of graduates and an untold number of memories. Last fall, the department relocated to Brooks-Shivers Hall to prepare for the music building’s extensive renovation. When construction is complete, the music building will have a new recital/lecture hall, offices for faculty and staff, 18 practice rooms, a piano lab, a computer lab and an updated recording studio. The building will also be handicapped accessible. “The faculty all gave input on design and were pleased to work with the architects and the acoustician,” said Russ Schultz, dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication. “This will be a very exciting building to move into. The architects were able to incorporate every function into the building that faculty requested. The architect for the project, which is scheduled for completion fall 2010, is VLK. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Pictures provided courtesy of VLK Architects. |
