To be accepted as a music major at Lamar University, students, both new and transfer, must meet the basic admission requirements for the University and pass an audition in their major performance area (see below).
Registration is 9 - 9:30 a.m. on the above dates. Auditions are held in the Recital Hall in Brooks-Shivers Hall on the Lamar University campus. Contact Dr. Kim Ellis at (409) 880-8149 or ksellis@my.lamar.edu for more information. Special audition dates can be arranged if necessary.
At the time of audition, all music major applicants will be given a theory placement examination to determine their level of theoretical knowledge. This examination includes key signatures, intervals, triads, treble and bass clefs, musical terms, and ear training. Those students who have already studied music theory will be given an opportunity-through examination-for advanced standing in music theory. Passing the audition on your major instrument or voice admits you to the Department of Music. It does not admit you to the university. You must also apply to the university for acceptance. If you would like to apply to Lamar University, please use the following link: http:www.lamar.edu/admissions.
