To be accepted as a music major at Lamar University, students, both new and transfer, must meet the basic admission requirements for the
University and pass an audition in their major performance area (see below).

Registration is 9 - 9:30 a.m. on the above dates. Auditions are held in the Recital Hall in the
Music Building on the Lamar University campus. Contact Dr. Scott Deppe at

At the time of audition, all music major applicants will be given a theory placement examination to determine their level of theoretical
knowledge. This examination includes key signatures, intervals, triads, treble and bass clefs, musical terms, and ear
training. Those
students who have already studied music theory will be given an opportunity-through examination-for advanced standing in
music theory.

Passing the audition on your major instrument or voice admits you to the Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music. It does not admit you to the university.
