Advertising at Lamar University

Advertising majors at Lamar prepare for exciting careers in communication. Majors must complete 30 credit hours from the departmental core and 18 hours in advertising studies, including advertising principles and practices, design, desktop publishing, principles of marketing, business analysis and campaign strategy.

Majors are also encouraged to take courses in advanced public speaking, interviewing, non-verbal communication, and persuasion.

Students interested in advertising and marketing may find benefit in joining as student members of the Advertising Federation of Southeast Texas, an association of marketing and advertising professionals. Regular club meetings help members prepare for annual competitions in advertising where students have a chance to win recognition locally and nationally. Because of the many skills required in successful advertising, the club is sponsored by faculty members in business, fine arts, music, and communication.
