Blackboard is an integrated set of web-based tools for course management and delivery. It was built by educators at the University of British Columbia as a tool to allow other educators to build sophisticated web-based learning environments without a lot of time, resources or technical expertise. And to allow any student who knows how to navigate the WWW to be able to participate in an online class. It may be used both in a distance learning setting (completely web-based) and as a supplement to lecture-based courses.
Smarthinking delivers both synchronous and asynchronous tutoring and is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week. All tutors hold a masters degree in their field of expertise. Aside from tutors, Smarthinking also hosts a bevy of study guides, study skills manuals, test prep, and self-assessment tools to help students succeed. Smarthinking is currently available to all distance education students and is free to use.
To access Smarthinking your students should use their My Lamar ID as their username and their Lamar student ID number as their password.
