About Us

Through intercampus sharing of resources, the Center for Distance Education facilitates collaboration among university colleges and departments to deliver quality distance instruction, coordinate faculty and student services, and promote distance learning throughout the region.

Distance learning is any type of education in which the learners are separated from the instructor or resources by space and/or time. Lamar University offers courses through four primary distance learning delivery modes: interactive videoconferencing, on-line courses and off-campus courses.

Functions of the Center for Distance Education:
1. Schedule all distance learning courses and facilities.
2. Assist in the development of distance courses.
3. Provide faculty and staff training for distance teaching.
4. Coordinate communication within the university for all activities associated with the
university distance education offerings.
5. Promote and disseminate information regarding university distance activities within the
university and to outside organizations, institutions, and individuals.
6. Promote and support the appropriate use of educational technology in all university courses.
