New Courses Added for Fall

How have the number and types of online and off-campus classes offered
changed for summer and fall 2008 in response to high gas prices?

Clearly, online learning is a great solution for those commuter students who
want to continue their studies at Lamar but don't want to pay exorbitant gas
prices to do so.  But several sections of our more popular classes have been
filled weeks or even days after registration began in April.  Dr. Paula
Nichols has worked diligently with each department on campus and has
procured an addition eleven sections of online courses for the Fall 08
Semester.  Nine of these classes will be additional sections of already
filled courses and two classes will be totally new online courses.  The
complete course schedule can be found at www.lamar.edu/cde

What are enrollment numbers like in online and off-campus classes for summer
and fall 2008 compared to last semester and last year?

Enrollment is up across the board for distance education. So far our
off-campus enrollments are up to 187 versus 134 for the same time last year.
That's nearly a 40% increase. Of course, online is where we are seeing some
of the most exciting growth.  As of this week, online enrollments are up to
1804 versus 1150 for last year--a 56% increase.  Online enrollments across
all three Summer semesters are up as well 793  versus 556 for Summer 07, a
42% increase.

What types of classes in what majors are available online and off-campus?

At our off campus sites we place an emphasis on the core curriculum;
though, we do offer an appealing assortment of 3000 and 4000 level elective
courses.

The complete core curriculum can be had online as well as a full complement
of upper level courses from almost every department on campus.

Currently we offer a Bachelor's of Applied Arts and Sciences and a
Bachelor's of General Studies, both of which can be completely had online.
There is also the MS in Nursing as well as the Rn to BSN Articulation Track.

In addition to the Lumberton campus, what off-campus options do students
have? Which ones seem to be most popular?

As a response to student demand we have consolidated our off-campus
offerings to two campuses--Lumberton High School and Westbrook High School.
Both sites have proven very popular with students who find it difficult to
commute to the main campus, though Westbrook does hold a slight edge in
enrollments.

Lumberton's enrollment has increased 134% over last year's numbers and
Westbrook is holding steady.  We are working hard to offer students at these
off-campus sites the complete core curriculum on a yearly rotation.
This summer we hope to add additional sections for Fall 08 to the Lumberton
campus to better serve students in Hardin County and counties to the north.
