Q-When are your career fairs?
A-Our career fairs vary and are several times a year. We have the Engineering and Technical Invitational, Spring Career Fair, Fall Career Fair, Meet The Firms, Accounting Mixer and Educators’ Career Fair. Q-Is there anyone here who can help me with my resume?
A-Our Student Employment Center does resume and cover letter critiques for part-time positions and pre-critique for all Career Consultants. You can email your resume to be critiqued online at studentemployment@lamar.edu .For more information can be found at careerservices.lamar.edu or studentemployment.lamar.edu.

Q-I don’t know what career I want to do. Do you have anything that can help me?
A-O*net Interest Profiler is a quick interest based test which will provide career choices based on your selections.  O*net can be accessed at careerservices.lamar.edu for free. To have the assessment reviewed with a Career Consultant call 409-880-8878 to schedule an appointment.
Q-How long should I keep my High School information on my resume?  
A-You should include your High School information on your resume until you are a sophomore or the end of your first year at Lamar. Companies want to see what you have gained from your opportunities as a college student and within your area of study.

Q-Should I include my major GPA on my resume if my cumulative GPA is not high?
A – As each major of study is different based on recruitment criteria, please contact your career consultant. For a listing careerservices.lamar.edu/staff

Q-Why shouldn’t I include my picture on my resume?
A-Including a picture on your resume could lead to discrimination (ie age, race, gender, religion, national origin, disability status, etc). Also, including your picture on your resume is not generally considered professional. For more resources careerservices.lamar.edu

 

Q-What skills are appropriate to include on the ‘Skills’ section of my resume?
A-Resumes should be specific to job postins, therefore skills should directly reflect those posted to include qualification.   • Passport Through Lamar University

Q-What do I do if I was unable to attend a Passport Event?
A-Fill out an Online Workshop Application form and deliver to Jacob Devilier’s Office located in the Galloway Business Building Suite 102 or email him at mailto:jddevillier@my.lamar.edu

Q-I forgot to sign in/sign out at the Passport event a few days ago, can I do that now?
A-You are not able to sign/sign out now, but you may fill out an Online Workshop Application form and complete the workshop online if you still wish to receive credit.

Q-I have to do a community event, is there anything you can set me up with?
A-If you go to the Civic Engagement Office in the Setzer Center, or call at (409)880-8723, they are always looking for volunteers and they will be able to arrange an event for you.

Q-I turned in an Online Workshop Application and I never received the password for the online workshop, when will I receive it?
A-The passwords for the online workshops are sent out along with instructions a week after the event takes place. If you have not receive them by then you will need to email Jacob Devillier mailto:jddevillier@my.lamar.edu

Q-Where can I get a list of events for the semester?
A-You can pick one up from the CTC, look on our website, or look on Blackboard to see all events for the semester. mailto:careerservices@lamar.edu

Q-The deadline for the online workshops was last week, can I still complete it?
A-Once the deadline passes students are unable to complete online workshops, no exceptions.

Q-When is the last day that I can turn in/complete online workshops?
A-The last day to turn in Online Workshop Application/Qualifying Event forms is April 12th 2013 at 5 pm, the last day to complete online workshops is April 16th 2013 at Midnight for  Spring 2013.

Q-I need my username and password to log into the Hire A Cardinal website.
A-You will use your L number without the L (just the numbers) as your username and your password will be your 5- or 6-digit birthdate.  HireACardinal.org

Q-I tried my birthdate as my password, but it still isn’t working. Can you help me?
A-If your birth month begins with a zero, January- September, you will not include the 0 in your password.  Ex. January 1, 2013 will be entered 10113. Careerservices.lamar.edu

Q-How do I apply for a job on Hire A Cardina.orgl?
A-Each job’s application instructions will vary slightly. On each job posting, scroll down to the ‘Application Instructions’ section of the post and follow the companies instructions for applying.

A-You can log onto the Hire A Cardinal.org online database to look for any open positions.

Testing Services

Q-I need to know what days and times are available to take my test.
A- Go online to testing.lamar.edu and choose the exam that you would like to register for. This will list all available days and times and you will choose the one which works best for you.

Q-How do I sign up for a test?
A-You will register and pay for tests online at testing.lamar.edu.

Q-When should I expect to get my results for a recent test I took?
A- It varies per exam. Testing.lamar.edu and click on your exam for more information.
