XIII. SUMMER PROGRAMS FOR PREPROFESSIONAL STUDENTS

Each medical school in Texas (and M. D. Anderson in Houston) offers programs that allow preprofessional students to gain valuable medically-related research experience. These are referred to as "medical school familiarization programs." These summer programs would be ideal for a student after completion of Organic Chemistry following the sophomore or junior year. Expenses are provided for those accepted to the program. Deadlines for most of these programs is mid February prior to entry into the program. For specifics, consult the websites for each institution.

In addition, many professional schools and some undergraduate institutions throughout the nation offer summer research programs and instructional programs for minority and disadvantaged undergraduate students. The purpose of these programs is to help students who are historically under-represented in research careers prepare for and gain admission into research careers.
